Employing Baking Soda and Peroxide to Whiten Teeth

If you want to have healthy, shiny, and white teeth without spending hundreds of dollars, you should know how to use baking soda and hydrogen peroxide for this purpose. Normally, with age, human teeth get colored, but there a number of other reasons for yellowing of teeth as well. Some of the reasons include chromogenic agents in coffee and tea, nerve damage to an accident or any other reason, smoking, and use of certain antibiotics. Consumption of fast food more than often is also responsible for damaging teeth. Almost every dentist now offers services to whiten your teeth, and there are a number of whitening kits are also available in the market that you can buy and use yourself. But if you are fond of home remedies or you want a cheap solution for yellow teeth, you can whiten them at home with the help of a number of easy ways to whiten teeth. Out of many ways, use of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide are most important. If you use 3% hydrogen peroxide for this, it would be considered a safe practice, and it is also recommended by the dental Association. Baking soda is easily available in the grocery stores and it is also used in many toothpastes.

Use of Baking Soda:


  • Mix half teaspoon of baking soda with half teaspoon of water in a small cup. Mix the two until a paste is formed. Dip your toothbrush in the paste and apply this mixture on bristles to cover it. Now, brush your teeth as you do it normally. Remember do not brush for more than 2 minutes. It is because if you let the baking soda there for longer, it can start eroding your enamel. After brushing, spit baking soda and rinse your moth with water. You can also use a good mouth wash. Rinse your brush as well. Apply the procedure daily for at-least one to two weeks. The results would start appearing in just few days.
  • You can also use baking soda by mixing ti with fresh lemon or lemon juice. Citric acid of lemon is a good bleaching agent and helps in whitening of teeth. For this, take half teaspoon of baking soda and mix it with half teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply the mixture on your teeth and let it there for about a minute. After one minute, rinse your mouth with water or mouthwash. Do not make it a habit to use this tip daily, as citric acid may cause corrosion.

Hydrogen Peroxide:


  • As we all know that hydrogen peroxide has antiseptic nature and is mostly used in treating injuries and wounds. 3% hydrogen peroxide is safe for oral use and you can bought it from any drug store. Take 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide in your mouth and swish for about 1 minute. When foam is started to produce, it is the sign that the solution has start working. Foam is produced because when hydrogen peroxide reacts with the oral bacteria, bubbles are produced. Afterward, spit out the solution and rinse your mouth. Brush your teeth normally.
  • You can also use baking soda combined with hydrogen peroxide. Mix half teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide with one teaspoon of baking soda. When you would mix it, a mixture would be formed that would be as consistent as a toothpaste is. Apply the mixture on your teeth, brush with it, and leave it for one or two minutes. Rinse your mouth with water or a mouthwash.
